Col de Souler, Pyrénées captures the vibrant energy of the 16th stage of the Tour de France, where Oscar Pereiro secured a dramatic victory. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Pyrenees, the painting showcases the peloton snaking through the mountains while enthusiastic spectators, many camped in RVs for days, cheer from the sidelines in a scene that mirrors the world’s greatest tailgate party. Among the crowd, the Tifosi continue their 32-year tradition of mooning the Tour, adding to the lively atmosphere. Above, a helicopter hovers over the race, heightening the sense of action and excitement as the riders make their ascent through this iconic mountain pass.
Le Grand Départ De Vendée offers a lively and colorful look at a side of the Tour de France that North American viewers rarely see. It's like an adult Halloween, with over 200 sponsors parading on enormous, brightly colored floats, tossing 1.5 million petit cadeaux (little gifts) to the 55 million spectators lining the race route. The riders are always an hour behind the festive caravan, with the crowd eagerly awaiting their arrival. In the background, a large screen shows a pivotal moment in the race, with Armstrong overtaking Ulrich during the time trial prologue. This vibrant scene captures the fun and excitement of the Grand Départ, highlighting the carnival-like atmosphere that accompanies this world-famous sporting event.
Champs-Elyseés is a dynamic and detailed portrayal of the grand finale of the Tour de France, set on the iconic Champs-Elysées. The sweeping view captures the excitement and intensity of the race, with cyclists powering down the famed avenue toward the Arc de Triomphe. Among the vibrant crowd, recognizable figures like Robin Williams can be seen in the Broom Wagon, and the late Phillip Amaury, former owner of the Tour, stands next to the legendary Marly Horse. The towering trees that frame the avenue, a gift from the Canadian Government in 1956, add to the grandeur of the scene. The meticulous attention to detail and energy make this piece a remarkable tribute to both the sport and the historic setting.
