Tegler Building
Tegler Building
The Tegler Building, pays homage to one of Edmonton's most iconic landmarks. Completed in 1912, the Tegler Building was a monumental structure, once the largest in Western Canada, and served as a cornerstone of Edmonton's downtown for 70 years. Toti's detailed work brings this lost piece of history back to life, showcasing its grandeur through precise lines and architectural elegance.
The bustling streetscape below teems with character: men and women clad in period attire hurry about their day, umbrellas in hand, while Sam, the popcorn vendor, stands as a quiet observer alongside familiar faces like Frank and Mary. Zellers, the vibrant store anchoring the scene, evokes a sense of nostalgia, while nearby payphones and window displays reflect the rhythms of urban life in a bygone era.
Through meticulous craftsmanship, Toti captures not just a building but the energy of a city and its people. This etching stands as a timeless tribute to the Tegler Building, preserving its spirit and legacy long after its demolition in 1982.
