WW Arcade Block
WW Arcade Block
Toti’s “WW Arcade Block” captures the enduring charm and history of one of Edmonton’s most beloved landmarks. This panoramic, sepia-toned etching immortalizes the iconic stretch of businesses that once defined the corner of 97th Street and Jasper Avenue. At its heart, the WW Arcade stands as a beacon of Edmonton’s past—a store that served generations, from its origins as W.W. Sales Hardware in 1932 to its transformation in 1942 and eventual closure in 1991 after nearly six decades of service.
The artwork beautifully reflects the building’s vibrant legacy, from the daily bustle of shoppers to the nostalgic annual trips families made to its basement, filled with Christmas treasures. Each detail—from the architecture’s intricate facades to the bustling streetscape of pedestrians, cyclists, and cars—evokes a sense of time suspended, as though the scene were a cherished memory brought to life.
Now, the WW Arcade’s legacy lives on in the Neon Sign Museum, where its original signage shines once more. Toti’s masterful etching is more than a tribute to a landmark; it is a window into Edmonton’s history and the heartbeat of its downtown community.
